:- 5.0 out of 5 stars from Sue -- A trip to the mountains . . . : The first page will grab you in this new book (and series) by Denise Hunter. Riverbend Gap takes place in a mountain setting. The beautiful setting adds to the romance of this story. Katelyn Loveland was on her way to start a new life at a clinic run by a good friend when she is involved in an accident. Cooper Robinson comes to her rescue and they connect right away. All through the story their connection can't be denied. Unfortunately, she is already the girlfriend of Cooper's brother Gavin. The Robinson family welcomes her and it's a feeling of belonging that she has never known. She is also there to try to reconnect with her mother who abandoned her when she was very young. Each of the characters in this story have their own story to tell of heartache - and a hope for a better life. You come to believe in all of them and as the story goes along you're not sure how the author will bring about a happy ending. You will need to read it to find out! It is Sheriff Deputy Cooper Robinson who rescues Katelyn as she veers off the road in the Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina. The two are inexplicably drawn to each other. However, he soon learns that she's just begun to date his brother and is therefore off limits. Many awkward situations arise. The characters are well drawn, and the story is delightful! I still have a problem believing people feel they own someone (i.e., Gavin's girlfriend). There was also a misunderstanding on Gavin's part that poor Katie had been taken advantage of. Denise Hunter’s books always contain endearing characters that are fully developed that I can easily relate to. Riverbend Gap was certainly no exception. The story immediately drew me in and caused me to neglect my real life responsibilities (Sorry honey!) in favor of reading on to discover what would happen next in this engaging tale.
