:- 3.0 out of 5 stars from Avid Reader -- No mystery : There is no mystery. It’s one hundred percent romance. I kept wondering why Ann didn’t report Mark and his high-handed ways to his superior and then oh she’s too attracted to him to do anything but fume. In the meantime no one is investigating the murders. Mark is a bully and Ann is the simpering little woman. If you are into the romance genre, then this is an excellent book. If you are looking for a good mystery, pass on this one. There is some education on the mysticism briefly mentioned, which is good. ( Reviewed in the United States on May 22, 2019 )
- 3.0 out of 5 stars from Joan C. -- Uncomfortable With Some Parts : On the whole I really liked this book. All the right elements were there. Some great twists and turns. I almost always figure out the who done it, but not this one. I liked the heat between the two leads. What ruined this book for me was---SPOILER---SPOILER---was finding out the H being a cop had carried on an affair with a known stripper and prostitute. Yes he knew her as a kid but he didn't sleep with her then. No decent cop would ever sleep with a stripper who prostitutes on the side! He used the excuse he was trying to get over his dead wife. What a crock! How insulting to his dead wife. I could not like him through the rest of the book. It compounded the fact that her ex husband was not only in love with the same stripper/prostitute but planned on marrying her. My other problem with this book was the end ways way too short. It ended so abruptly. ( Reviewed in the United States on June 8, 2019 )
- 5.0 out of 5 stars from BDJ -- Love Her Books : I always love her books and again I was not disappointed. I was sucked in right away. One of the things I really liked was that the main characters were not twenty somethings with not a lot of living under their belts. The characters were mature with good lives and not unhappy before they met. I really didn't know until almost the end "who-done-it" which was nice. I would have liked to know what happened to some of the characters....maybe a follow-up book is out there and I just haven't come across it yet. ( Reviewed in the United States on February 2, 2017 )
- 3.0 out of 5 stars from Sassy aka Meme -- Not my favorite : Good storyline, suspenseful, but, It was almost like someone else wrote it. Grammatically speaking, that is. I am a huge fan of Heather Graham and own many of her books and have always been very happy with them until this one. Grammar is a sore spot for me. Having some issues is ok with me. I'm not always grammatically correct, but this book, well, it was as if she was off her game. I don't know how else to describe it. ( Reviewed in the United States on November 20, 2017 )
- 4.0 out of 5 stars from Kate -- New Orleans : This standalone southern mystery is set in the Crescent City, where a woman has been murdered. The man believed to be her killer left a trail of blood to his ex wife's door before collapsing from his wounds and blood loss. Now in a coma and unable to defend himself from the two police officers assigned to the case, his ex decides to investigate, beginning with the strip club where the dead woman danced. - 5.0 out of 5 stars from lsiemon46 -- Steamy and hot...sex or New Orleans? Read and find out! : This is a story filled with loyalty , love and murder set in New Orleans and the surrounding swamps. What would you do if your ex-husband came to your door covered in blood saying "I didn't do it!"before falling almost dead into your arms? Would you risk your own life to prove him innocent? There are many twists and turns along her journey as she tries to keep a step ahead of a very sexy Detective while he tries to keep her safe and find who killed his former lover. This is a really good read! ( Reviewed in the United States on April 8, 2019 )
- 5.0 out of 5 stars from MelanieW -- Captivating : From the first sentence to the very end this book holds you captive. I am a big fan of Heather Graham. Her writing style, the way she brings true history into her books and breaths life into it and how she introduces her characters so you feel as if you know them - are all reasons why I continue to read her books. If you have never read a book by Heather Graham you are missing out. Take a chance, you won't be disappointed. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 1, 2020 )
- 5.0 out of 5 stars from Honest reviewer -- Down in New Orleans : A very interesting and suspense filled story of murder and mistrust. An artist painting portraits of the dancers/ prostitutes working at a jazz club falls in love with one of them but is soon the number one suspect in her murder. The only one who seems to believe in his innocence is his ex-wife who finds herself uncontrollably attracted to the lead detective on the case who is trying to prove her ex is guilty. What a confusing case and it makes for great reading. ( Reviewed in the United States on March 7, 2018 )
- 3.0 out of 5 stars from gillaman -- Down in New Orleans : Well, I read it , but it was a bit too predictable for my liking and I skipped some pages. I didn't really believe in or care about the characters and a lot of the plot seemed to be designed simply to enable the author to include the sex scenes. They were OK, but didn't really add anything to the story. I thought this was run of the mill. ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on August 11, 2013 )
